A family is the foundation of a developed and matured society anywhere in the world and especially in India.
Earlier, in Kerala the members of a family were living together comprising of grandfather and grandchildren (Koottukudumbam) and at present ‘nuclear families’ are prevailant everywhere. This social change has a great impact on the life of the youths at present.
We, Christian families must be a refuge to the socially depressed and downtrodden people. That is what Jesus Christ expect from a true Christian. Our nuclear families must unite together and serve our weaker brothers and sisters, first in the family and then in the society.
We must have a thorough knowledge about our “roots” and pedigree and the values we consider as sacred in our day to day life in the arena of Christian witnessing. Valiyaveettil Kudumbam was transplanted to Cherukole from Kuravilangad Pakalomattom family via Nilakkal, Kudassanad and Thumpamon. Valiyaveettil family came to Cherukole about three hundred years ago from Thumpamon Pallivathukal Kudumbam. We can be proud that the branches of Valiyaveettil Kudumbam are flourishing in different corners of India and abroad.
Our beloved forefathers gave a foundation to their Long cherished vision and ambition on June 3rd 1979 in the presence of Rev. A. I. Isac and Rev. Jacob Cherian, our family members. The idea of the ‘Kudumbayogam’ was brought into an entity, and Mr. A. M. Oommen Attupurathu was nominated as the founding patron, Mr. K. C. Cherian, Kottappurathu as president and Mr. A. L. Cherian, Attupurathu as secretary. The first official meeting was held on December 29th 1979 at the premises of Mr. K. C. Cherian’s residence, at Chennithala. A managing committee was also formed on that day.
Most Rev. (Late) Dr. Gheevarghese Mar Osthathios, Metropolitan from Syrian Orthodox community in Kerala and Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philaxenos Thirumeni of Malankara Marthoma Sabha were inducted as Patrons. Late V. G. Samuel Chief Pastor of penthouses church also severed lord with passion and commitment. We respectfully remember his service to the Universal church.
We must look back to the past years with joy in our heart and thanks to Almighty God for leading us prosperously and happily through these years. Our Kudumbayogam has done several charities during the last few years and we are in the process of constructing an office building for Kudumbayogam and it’s general meeting purpose, in the plot donated to us by our beloved member Mr. Eapen K. Mathew, Kottappuram. We are seriously thinking about a step for taking care of our elderly members in a effective manner.
It is equally cherishable to remember some of the leading sportsmen from our family like, Late A. M. Chandy (at that time popularly known as ‘Olympian Chandy’), Late K. I. Chandapillai, Late Mathew Iype, Late K. E. Mathew, Late Adv. A. M. Mathew (lawn tennies) and so on…
It is a good time to remember the great contributions of our World famous cartoonists Late Mr. Abu Abraham also a (Rajyasabha Member of Indian Parliment) and Late Ajith Ninan.
It will be a Great Omission from our side if we ignore the significant services rendered to our Nation by Late Lt: Colonel A. O. Alexander and Late Major A. C. Mathew.
We are equally proud of our earlier Panchayath President Smt. Sheeja Anil (2010-2015) and Mr. Iype Chandapillai who was elected as president of Service Co-Operative Bank, Chennithala continuously for 6 times.
The President of the only senior secondary school, Chennithala is also one among us; Mr. Cheriyan K Cheriyan. His Respected father Late Mr. K. C. Cheriyan was the manager of the above mentioned school for long time.
